Implementing shortcut keys can be very useful and a real time saver. It can drastically cut short your time and can increase your productivity many folds. Instead of using your mouse and searching for a particular application that you use the most, you can replace this task with a few key strokes.

Moreover, you can place all your shortcuts on your desktop but that to can be confusing if you have dozens of shortcuts on your desktop. If you want to get out from such a condition. Here is a simple and neat trick to assign keyboard shortcuts to any program you like.

Here is what you have to do;

1. The first thing that you need to do is to create a shortcut of that program to which you will be assigning the shortcut key. In order to create a new shortcut (if not already on the desktop), right-click the program file and then click “Create Shortcut” to create one. For instance, in this tutorial we will be creating a shortcut of BitLord – reference screenshot below;

2. Provide it with the path where you want your shortcut to be and then hit “OK“. Note; Windows Vista users will be provided a direct path on the desktop by the OS itself;

3. Once the shortcut icon has been made, right-click on the shortcut icon and open “Properties“;

4. Enter the desired key that best matches the application; in our case we chose the key “B” for BitLord. Notice as soon as you hit the key, Prefix; CTRL+ALT+[YourKey] are appended to it automatically.
