Have you started to feel locking and password protecting your important files is more important than ever? If you are an administrator of computer network or if you have multiple accounts on Windows 7, then can prevent some important folders from being spotted by other users. Every time this protected and locked folder is accessed, it will ask for a password, meaning only those can access it that have the administrator password. This means that the folder will be permanently locked for others until and unless you do not remove the lock/password yourself. Let us teach you how to do this.

Right-click on the folder you want lock and go to its “Properties”. Navigate to the “Security” tab and choose “Edit” like you can see in the image below.

A window will appear called “Permissions for Videos”. Under the “Group and User Names”, select those groups of people whom you want to deny access to for specific folders. Under the “Permission for Users” portion, check the “Deny” box next to “Modify” and you will notice the rest of the boxes getting ticked automatically.

Click “OK” when you see the below window appear, and then click “Yes” when the Windows Security prompt comes up.

Lock a Folder To Password Protect Your Files

Now, the users you specified will be denied access to the folder. If this is too hard for you all, then there is another way around it too. Lock a Folder is an application available on the Windows platform to help you lock specific folders. You can choose a password of your choice to lock and protect the folder.

When you open the app for the first time, enter a master password so that people cannot access the application.

Enter the password to open the interface of the app. Click “Lock a Folder” and enter the master password. Select the folder and then click “Lock it”.

This will password protect the file immediately and hide if from the source location as well. To unlock a folder, launch the app and click “UnLock a Folder”. Enter your master password and you will be shown all of your locked folders. Select which ones you want to lock and click “Unlock it”.
